From Crayons to a Grad Cap - A Card

Hooray! A Colorful Graduation Card is one of those milestones that deserves a little extra celebration, so when I sat down to create this card for the Polkadoodles Design Team, I wanted it to feel bright, colorful, and full of personality. My inspiration came from something simple—a box of crayons. Because after all, isn’t that where it all starts.

We head off to school barely 3 feet tall with a box of crayons

The bold reds, greens, and blues instantly bring a playful energy to the design while still capturing the excitement of graduation day. For the focal images, I chose several elements from the Graduation Object Digital Stamps collection: a stack of books, a graduation cap, and a rolled diploma. These images work beautifully together to tell the story of achievement, learning, and new beginnings.

I colored all of the images with Copic markers using simple blends to keep the design cohesive:

Books - Red: R39, R27, R24 - Green: G19, G09, G05 - Blue: B26, B24, B21

Graduation Cap - Black: 100, N8, N6, N4

Diploma & Book Pages - C3, C1, 0 To add a touch of shine, I used a gold gel pen on the tassel and book details. It catches the light beautifully and adds just enough sparkle without overwhelming the design.

The background was created by starting with a layer of red embossed cardstock. I then printed two patterned papers from the Graduation Paper Bundle. One of the papers was torn along the top and bottom edges and layered diagonally across the card front, creating movement and visual interest.

For the main focal area, I used a second patterned paper that resembles lined notebook paper. After punching three holes along the side, I mounted it onto a blue cardstock mat to create a dedicated landing space for the focal images. The notebook-paper look reinforces the school theme while adding texture and dimension.

To bring everything to life, I attached the books and diploma using varying heights of foam tape. This simple step creates depth and helps the images stand out from the background.

The bold HOORAY! sentiment from the Graduation Sentiments collection was the perfect finishing touch for this celebration card. I paired it with a smaller sentiment that nestles neatly onto the ruled lines of the notebook paper, tying the entire design together.

A few sparkling gems were added for a final bit of shine, and just like that, this colorful graduation card was ready to celebrate a special achievement and head off to its new recipient!

Whether you're creating for a graduate heading off to their next adventure or simply celebrating a job well done, this playful design is a wonderful way to mark the occasion.
