Boo-tiful Webs & A Creepy Crawler on a Card
Grab your broomsticks, friends—it’s time to spin up some Halloween magic, one spooky spiderweb at a time!
One of my favorite ways to bring Halloween cards to life is with Tim Holtz spray stains. They’re quick, a little unpredictable in the best way, and add that perfect shimmer and shine to plain cardstock. A spritz here and there instantly transforms a flat background into something with depth, sparkle, and just enough eerie glow to make those webs and spiders pop. It’s like giving your cardstock a costume of its own—perfectly dressed up for Halloween!
Warning: sprays and splatters may cause uncontrollable fun—and a splatter box that becomes more famous than your cardstock.
Sprays and splatters are not for the faint of heart—they’re for the brave souls who don’t mind a little crafty chaos (and maybe a stained fingertip or two). A splatter box is a must, unless you want your craft room to look like a Jackson Pollock experiment gone rogue. You can purchase one at the link above or grab an old cardboard box, dedicate it to your messy adventures, and before long it’ll turn into a masterpiece of its own—proof of every wild spray and splatter session you’ve survived. Messy? Absolutely. Fun? 100%.
—because what’s Halloween without a little messy fun?
Blending Black Soot Distress Ink around the edges works like a frame, gently pulling the eye inward and keeping the focus right on the card front. It adds depth, drama, and just the right touch of contrast to make the design pop.
Layering up die-cut webs weaves a sense of depth and shadow, as if something might be lurking just beyond the strands. Each stacked web creates dimension, turning a flat card into a tangled lair that feels ready for its eight-legged resident.
To pull this spooky scene together, I reached for a mix of favorite supplies that make Halloween cards come alive. From the bright orange background, to the glimmer of sprays and splatters, each layer added just the right amount of eerie charm. The die-cut webs gave it structure, the little spider added the scare factor, and the bold sentiment tied it all together with a cheeky wink.
Here’s what I used to make this creepy-cute creation:
Acrylic Speckle Ink (for splatter)
The Sentiment was heat embossed with gold embossing powder to pull just an additional touch of gold tones to that very front panel with our leggy friend.
I don’t have a lot of Halloween Sentiments so “Boo” had to do it.
And that’s a wrap on this spooky little creation! Between the shimmer sprays, splatters, and a web (or three), it’s proof that Halloween cards are all about playing, layering, and maybe making a delightful mess along the way. Whether you’re crafting for tricks, treats, or just the fun of it, I hope this inspires you to let your creativity creep out of the shadows. Until next time—happy haunting and happy crafting!"
