A Little Dragonfly & A Lot of Happy Memories
There’s something about a dragonfly that instantly makes a card feel calm, pretty, and just a tiny bit magical — and this one fluttered its way onto my desk and refused to leave.
I started by creating the background using an embossed panel full of delicate floral details. Once that texture was in place, it was time for my favorite part… ink blending! I layered several shades of green, building from soft and fresh at the top to deeper, richer tones toward the bottom. It’s one of those techniques where you start out gently and then suddenly realize you’re fully committed… and your fingers are also now several shades of green.
Crafting badge of honor, right?
The embossed texture really comes alive once the ink settles into all those little grooves. A few subtle splatters were added for extra interest — because if there isn’t at least one moment of “should I have done that?” did we even craft?
Then came the star of the show — that gorgeous die cut dragonfly. I layered soft yellow tones on the wings to give it a delicate glow, while the darker body grounds everything nicely. It almost looks like it might lift right off the card… and honestly, I wouldn’t blame it if it did.
To finish things off, I added a beautiful sentiment: “all of my happiest memories include you.” Simple, heartfelt, and perfect for so many occasions. Sometimes the best cards don’t need a lot of fuss — just pretty layers, a touch of texture, and a dragonfly that steals the spotlight.
One of the things I love most about this design is how easy it is to make it your own using whatever you already have in your stash. Any embossing folder will work beautifully, and you can play with any combination of inks — soft pastels, bold brights, or even moody tones for a completely different look. The focal point doesn’t have to be a dragonfly either… a butterfly, a ladybug, a bee, or any favorite die cut would be just as charming. This is truly a “use what you have” kind of project, and those are often the most fun. That said, in case you’re curious, the embossing folder and the dragonfly I used both came from Simon Says Stamp — but don’t let that stop you from reaching for supplies already on your desk. Creativity first, shopping later… that’s my crafting philosophy!
I have a few more projects coming soon that use these same techniques — embossing folders, ink blending, and colorful cardstock combinations — to create different looks. Keep an eye out… it’s amazing how many styles you can achieve with just a few simple supplies!
This card came together with a peaceful feel… and a reminder that a little blending, a little embossing, and a little sparkle of inspiration can create something truly lovely. And if you end up with green ink on your hands along the way — well, that just means you were having fun.
