This adorable card boasting big bear hugs features a bear from Penny Blacks - Fur & Flutters stamp set. The die cut “hugs” sentiment was Gina K Designs - hugs die. The flower was from Echo Park - Freshly Picked Flowers Die.
I started with a panel of white cardstock cut at 4 1/8 x 5 3/8, and cut a section off of the bottom corner of the panel.
I die cut 2 layers of the word “hugs”, one in white and one in that peachy pink cardstock. I blended a bit of ink on the bottom of the colored cardstock layer and then glued the 2 layers together.
The bear I chose to stamp was holding its own flower, however I didn’t ink up the flower ( just the stem ) before stamping. After stamping the bear on the cardstock panel I colored him using Copic markers and gave him a tiny bit of ground to stand on so he wasn’t just floating around on the card front.
I mixed a few drops of water with gold metallic water color paint and added a little splatter to the card front after covering the bear with a sticky note. I also added a few drops of splatter to the bottom corner of the card base and left them to dry.
I die cut the blossom of the flower used from the Freshly Picked Flowers Die, shaded it with some ink and a few white highlights and attached it at the top of the stem with foam tape. I also popped up the center of the flower with a tiny piece of foam tape to create some dimension on the flower.
Using some liquid glue I adhered the die cut greeting to the diagonal cut of the card front panel. I did have to use paper snips to snip a few areas of white from the bottom edge card panel.
** If the sentiment were placed straight across the bottom of the card I could have just used a partial die cutting technique and then placed the die cut words.
I placed a few gems of coordinating color from my stash on the card front for a little bit of added interest and added the panel to the front of the card base using foam tape.
I stamped the inside with a sentiment reading “it’s a hug with a fold in the middle” and splattered a little more of the metallic gold.
This layout would work with many other word dies, or focal images.
Try something you have have hanging about in your stash.
