Layers of Christmas Bear- Decoupage Card
If ever there was a bear made for decoupage, it’s Bella — all bundled up, balancing on snowdrifts, and built from layers of crafty love.
There’s something irresistibly sweet about Bella Bear at Christmas — especially when she’s caught mid-decorating, balancing on her little stool with a star in paw and that determined holiday sparkle in her eye. This cozy winter scene is more than just cute, though — it’s built layer by layer to create a playful decoupage effect that makes Bella and her Christmas tree pop right off the card front. It’s the kind of technique that looks fancy but is actually quite fun and approachable — the perfect way to add depth, texture, and a touch of whimsy to your seasonal crafting.
Decoupage, at its heart, is all about layering cut elements to create dimension and movement — a sort of paper magic that brings flat images to life. For this card, I took that idea and ran with it! The background was built in two layers — rolling snowy hills and evergreen trees — then I added Bella Bear, her gift, and that cheerful little bag of stars in even more raised layers to complete the 3D look. The result is a charming holiday scene that feels like you could almost step right in and help Bella hang the next ornament.
To bring this layered scene to life, I reached for some of my favorite go-to supplies like sharp scissors and my markers, as well as:
The adorable Bella Bear image for the perfect centerpiece.
A background of trees & snowdrifts for a cozy winter feel.
Foam tape to build dimension between the cut layers helps build that charming decoupage effect.
I printed 2 layers of the background. The first background layer I colored as is.
The second background layer I cut out the section that contained the houses and the trees that were furthest away.
The 3rd layer was of the largest background trees.
The 4th layer was the Bella, and the tree she is decorating.
The 5th layer was Bella, the bag of stars and the present.
The last layer was a short layer of snowbank that sits at the bottom of the card.
This same decoupage effect could be created using the precolored version of Bella available at Polkadoodles.
The end result is a festive little scene bursting with dimension, just like the holiday season itself — cozy, cheerful, and full of joy.
Decoupage might sound fancy, but once you start stacking those little paper pieces, it’s downright addictive (in the best crafty way). Whether you’re creating a snowy scene or something a bit more sparkly, adding a few extra layers can turn a simple design into a story that jumps right off the page. So go ahead — grab your scissors, pop up those foam squares, and let Bella inspire a little extra dimension in your next card!
