Hide the Evidence: How to Hide a Knot in a Stretch Bracelet

If there’s one tiny detail that can make a handmade stretch bracelet look a whole lot more finished, it’s hiding that knot.

Because after you’ve spent all that time choosing the perfect beads, arranging them, changing your mind, rearranging them again — and possibly wondering why one rogue bead refuses to cooperate — the last thing you want is a knot sitting there announcing itself.

How to Hide the Knot

Once you’ve finished stringing your bracelet, tie your stretch cord securely as you normally would.

Now, instead of leaving the knot sitting between the beads, gently work it toward the hole of the bead beside it. Give the cord a careful pull and pull the knot right inside the bead.

Once the knot slips into the bead opening, slide your beads back together.

Voilà.

No visible knot. No awkward little gap. Just a nice, continuous bracelet that looks properly finished.

No little knot peeking out between the beads yelling, “Hey! Look at me!”

And really, after spending all that time choosing beads, deciding on a pattern and inevitably moving three beads around seventeen times, we deserve a nice finish.

Plan Where Your Knot Will Hide

Here’s the trick I use when I’m planning my bracelet:

Start with a bead that has a slightly larger hole.

Remember, the first and last beads you string will eventually meet when you tie your bracelet together. If that first bead has a generous opening, you already know exactly where your knot is going to end up.

Once the bracelet is tied, the knot will be sitting right beside that larger-hole bead. Give the cord a gentle pull and work the knot into the bead opening until it disappears.

No hunting around the bracelet for a bead that might accommodate the knot. You planned for it from the beginning.

One Little Step, Much Better Finish

It’s such a simple thing, but it makes a noticeable difference — especially when you’re working with glass beads where the finished bracelet has a more polished look.

So before you start stringing your next bracelet, take a quick look at your beads and choose your knot-hiding bead first.

Future-you, sitting there with two little pieces of stretchy cord and a knot that needs somewhere to go, will be very pleased with you.
