A Pop Up Popcorn Card

If you love a card that brings a little humor and a surprise, this Pop-Up Popcorn Card might just steal your heart.

It’s cheerful, interactive, and proves once again that handmade cards don’t have to be mushy to be meaningful. This one literally pops up into an easel-style display, making it perfect for setting on a desk or shelf — because cards this cute deserve to be seen, not tucked into a drawer.

The base of this card starts with cardstock cut to 4 1/4" x 11", scored on the long side at 5 1/2" and 2 3/4" to create the easel fold. For the inside panel, I added a piece of white cardstock cut to 4" x 5 1/4", which gives plenty of room for a fun sentiment and those buttery popcorn details.

To decorate, I used two pieces of red and white striped pattern paper, cut to 4" x 2" for the inside panel and 4" x 3/4" for the top of the of the card front — keeping the look classic, playful, and very “movie night.”

A few extra pieces of popcorn are added to the card inside, popped up with foam tape to act as a stopper to hold the card in easel position for display.

The popcorn box and popcorn pieces were die cut from scraps of red and white cardstock — a great way to use up leftovers from your stash. The popcorn itself really comes to life with a bit of ink blending using shades of yellow ink, plus some light dotting with a yellow marker to add texture and dimension. The popcorn box does require a little assembly, but don’t let that scare you off — it’s super simple and comes together quickly. Once assembled, the whole card folds into an easel shape so the popcorn “pops” right up for display.

Perfectly poppin’ sentiments add just the right amount of humor and tie the whole popcorn theme together.

This card is just plain fun — perfect for birthdays, thinking-of-you cards, or anyone who appreciates a good pun. I’ll be sure to add a link below to the Popcorn Dies I used so you can recreate this project (and maybe make a whole batch… because once you start, it’s hard to stop). Thanks for popping in today — I hope this card inspires you to try something interactive and add a little extra fun to your cardmaking!
