Squirrel Appreciation Day - January 21st

It is said “there is a card for every occasion”, and so be it.

I didn’t actually know that today was Squirrel appreciation day until this card was actually well under way.

It just so happened I was shopping for digital images a few days ago on one of my favorite Etsy shops - leehollandart, when I spied some adorable squirrel illustrations that just needed to land on some of my card fronts. These images are just so darn cute. I purchased them and adjusted the size required for my intended card on Adobe Express as per usual. I had printed the images out, however they never ended up colored and turned into a card at that point.

This morning while absorbing my much needed coffee and organizing my day - I decided to plan to at least get one of those adorable squirrels center stage on a card before nightfall. After getting everything into a pot for the makings of chili for supper it appeared I had time to color a squirrel image. So while visiting with my daughter and grandson in my studio I also created this card.

Sometime later while glancing online I noticed a friend had posted about Squirrel Appreciation Day, which I had actually thought was perhaps a meme that was intended as a joke, since I wondered how one shows appreciation to a squirrel? I mean aside from taking the usual admirable photos of these cute little characters scampering about in the new fallen snow I was completely unsure about this Squirrel Appreciation Day. Curiosity got the best of me, I googled it and sure enough - it’s a thing!

So, that was completely ironic, but it is how I just happened to end up with an “I love that we are friends” squirrel card on Squirrel Appreciation Day. I suppose the card might represent the affection and appreciation these two adorable little pals have for each other throughout their daily adventures.

Since I am doubtful that any squirrel will see my card or even this post, I’ll be sure to throw out a few extra little bread crumbs today for those furry little scamps scurrying about searching for food on this cold winters day.

I hope you enjoy the card…
