Because January Is 88 Days Long (and Birthdays Need a Laugh)

After all the sparkle, cookies, and chaos of Christmas, easing back into blogging in January can feel a little… meh.

Getting back into blogging and card making after the holidays always feels a little awkward—like the craft room and I are meeting again after a long break. The Christmas chaos is over, the glitter has finally settled, and suddenly I’m standing there with a cup of coffee wondering where to start.

January doesn’t exactly roll out the red carpet for creativity either. The days are quiet, the light is dull, and my motivation needs a gentle nudge… or possibly a firm shove.

And it somehow feels like January lasts approximately 88 days.

That’s exactly why this birthday card felt like the right way to kick off the new year— No pressure, no big production—just a bit of paper, some ink, and a cheeky sentiment that instantly turns a gloomy winter day into something a little brighter—and a lot funnier.

Birthday cards need a sense of humor, especially this time of year. This sweet little scene looks innocent enough on the outside, with soft colors and a playful image that makes you smile before you even read the sentiment.

Meet Burt—the cat who definitely knows exactly what happened to the canary…

This mischievous little guy comes from Riley & Company’s Funny Bones Collection, and honestly, his expression says it all. Paired with the sentiment a little birdie told me,” also from the Funny Bones line.

Open it up, and—well—there’s the punchline. It’s one of those cards where the humor sneaks up on you—sweet on the outside, slightly suspicious on the inside, and guaranteed to get a laugh.

It’s safe to say the inside sentiment delivers a perfectly unexpected laugh that makes you fully appreciate the moment.

If this card — and Burt’s very suspicious grin — made you smile, consider checking out the Funny Bones line from Riley & Company available at Scrapbook.com and add a bit of humor to your winter card making.

Crafting in January doesn’t need to be groundbreaking or perfect. It just needs to be fun. A little humor, a simple design, and a reminder that even during the longest month of the year, there’s always room on the desk for creativity (and maybe a second cup of coffee).

Because honestly… if January insists on sticking around forever, we might as well laugh our way through it.
