*Seriously, if I used an apron while crafting, I might be able to find things!
So many professions/hobbies call for an apron - let’s tie up ours and get started with this card.
So this card can be crafted up using 2 different methods:
The easy way, in that you already have an apron shaped die, or cut file.
Use a 2 inch die to cut a partial circle (arm space) on one side of the card base. Use that cut out to map out exact placement on the other side of the card base. Place the die and cut again.
Move onto Back to the Card section below.
Easily use some simple aids to help create the apron shape.
Let’s work on option 2 - assuming you don’t have a die or cut file to create the apron shape.
Start with a card base cut at 4 1/4 x 11, Scored @5 1/2.
Fold & crease the score line & keep the card closed.
Using a 2” circle die place it on the top right corner of the card, only part of the die will be on the card. Just enough so you see that if cut the circular part will give you that apron shaped cut on the right side. When you are happy with placement, tack down with some mint tape and run through your cutting machine.
Using the partial circle section that was cut from right side, flip it over and place on the left side lined up perfectly with the top and side. Place the circle die exactly over this and tack down while slipping the cut pattern. Complete the cut in your die cutting machine.
Be sure to run each cut back & forth in the cutting machine a time or two since the die is cutting through 2 layers of cardstock (card base). Do not throw away the partial circle section(yet).
** If you do not have circle dies or a cutting machine -
Use the bottom of a coffee cup, drinking glass tape roll (something of similar circular shape), trace around the object on the corner of the card base to obtain the apron cut out. Cut around the tracing with sharp scissors. Use the cut out to trace the partial circle shape on the opposite side of the card and again, cut with scissors.
Back to the card:
Cut a piece of pattern paper at 4 x 5 1/4. Using the partial circular shape from the steps above, line this up on the corners of the card base, place the die exactly into the position required, and run through die cutting machine. Repeat this process for the other side of the pattern paper.
The pattern piece of paper should fit nicely onto the apron shaped card front with a small border of card base showing from behind. Adhere the pattern paper to the card front. I used foam tape for a little extra “flair”.
That’s really it! It’s that easy!!
All that’s left is to print, color & cut the images. large words, and the sentiment.
The sauce was colored in green to resemble relish, since one of the sentiments says “Relish the Day”.
I added glossy finish to the hot dog, lettuce, edge of drumstick, and the relish to create a little “pop” on the images.
The BBQ & King large words I colored in a gradient combination using: RV69, RV66, RV63 to coordinate with the pattern paper.
Lettuce, relish & Crown: YG13, YG09, YG11
Hot Dog: R27, R24, R22 Darker Shading E18
Hamburger Bun: E55, E53, E51
Hamburger: E79, E77
Drumstick : E57, E55, E53 Darker Shading E29( E79 Texture Dots ) & Bone: N2, N1, 0
Fork: N2, N1. Handle: E53, E51
White gel pen for added highlights & seeds on the hamburger bun (E79).
Lastly… using a combination of foam tape and liquid glue arrange the colored images onto the card front in the desired positions for your card.
Green twine to create the apron strings and tied bow at the top of the card.
The card inside has a 1/2’ x 4 1/4 strip of pattern paper adhered about 1/2” from the bottom. I will add another inside sentiment above the piece of pattern paper at a later time.
I hope this card has given you some creative inspiration to whip up a card for your favorite BBQ King, chef, or baker… and if nothing else the mouth watering images have at least created a hunger for some delicious BBQ food to celebrate this May long weekend!
Happy Victoria Day Weekend!
