When It’s -35°, We Craft with Udderly Cute Cows

It was a balmy -35 degrees here in Ontario over the weekend, complete with an extra helping of snow just for dramatic effect. So really, what else is a girl to do in sub-zero survival mode other than binge Netflix, bury herself in the latest best-selling novel, or retreat to the craft room with a hot drink and something utterly adorable to work with?

Enter stage right, these udderly sweet digital cows — because if winter insists on freezing my eyelashes, I’m at least going to be surrounded by cute while it happens.

This card came together with a simple, clean layout that really lets the image shine (also endless coffee supply). I used a mix of soft floral digital paper paired with a contrasting die cut polka dot panel (pulled from my stash) to keep things playful but not too busy.

The cow image was colored with Copics in warm grey tones, with gentle pinks and corals added for the bow, hearts, and florals to keep the whole design feeling cozy and cheerful. I’ll link all the products I used below, but this is definitely one of those designs that’s easy to recreate with whatever papers and supplies you already have in your stash.

Polka Dot Cover Plate Die - mine was old from my stash and this was the only link I could find to one at the Catherine Pooler website.

The layout is pretty simple:

I started with a 4 1/4 x 11 white cardstock base, scored at 5 1/2. I covered the front of the card base with a piece of pattern paper printed from the Polkadoodles Udderly Cute Cow collection (4 1/4 x 5 1/2). I cut a piece of 2 x 5 1/2 pink/coral cardstock from my stash and die cut it using the Polka Dots Die Cut, then added a bit of color depth by randomly ink blending a coordinating ink color onto the die cut piece. I added the die cut piece to the card front with liquid glue. Using some foam tape the Udderly Cute Cow was fussy cut and added to the card front, and then the greeting. How fun is that greeting?!

The random little hearts were part of the image, and I just cut those out and glued them in the desired spaces. The card was finished off with a few sparkly gems.

And if you think this little cow is cute… just wait. I may or may not be slightly obsessed, because more of these charming bovines are heading your way this week. Turns out, the only thing that makes a Canadian winter more bearable is an endless supply of crafty cows and a very well-stocked glue collection.
