Sunny Season's Greetings!
My Daughter in Law's parents are in one of those warm beachy climates ( I forgot the exact place ) right now and during a video call last week I was able to see the gorgeous view... just unbelievable beauty.
Now this wasn't quite the view... however it's been in my head since. So this morning I decided I would create a card using a stamp set that I bought for the holiday season, and ended up using it only once. Yikes... have you ever done that?
While thinking of that beautiful ocean view I thought of all the people who don't live here in cold, cold Canada and realized that everyone's Christmas season doesn't involve snow and pine trees.
With that in mind I created a card with a "sandman" instead of the traditional snowman.
The creation of this card involved some blending, masking and just stamping.
The Greeting is popped up on dimensionals and I am sure I'm going to go back and die cut those sunglasses and pop them up to. Just for a little added something.
I stamped the snowman in approximately the position I wanted him in, then created a mask with a piece of sticky note paper and covered him up. Covering him with a mask allowed me to create the sand, water and sky and still have the snowman in the fore ground.
I used masks again to create the different layers of sand, as well as the water. These are no fancy masks, I simply just cut sticky note paper to the desired look that I want.
The sky was blended with a combination of Balmy Blue, So Saffron and Calypso Coral.
I used an inverted circle mask and Mango Melody to create the sun. Then just blended around the sun without the mask.
I removed the mask, added the sandman details and colored the sandman using Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends. Then stamped some shells and added a few pieces of Faux Sea Glass.
The card base is actually Bermuda Bay to match the shades of the ocean.
The Greeting and a few other images came from this Sunkissed Stamp Set. It's currently on the "Retiring" list.
And in my opinion, justly so.
The images in this stamp set ~ not so great once stamped. There is a lot of black outline in them, leaving very little room for any type of color or the possibility of adding dimension.
The Greetings and Sentiments - Great wording, however it's so small the recipient will need to get out a magnifying glass to read it. I had to use the stamperatus and stamp 3 times in Memento Black Ink just to make them somewhat readable.
I haven't seen a lot of cards using this stamp set. Maybe others got a lot more out of this stamp set than I did... however I definitely didn't get any bang for my buck on this one. It's safe to say its on my "Worst of 2022 List".
This is simply just my opinion - Please let me know if you have had better luck with it.
Be sure to check out the Last Chance Sale as well as the Clearance rack!!
BTW: It's snowing here today and my studio seemed quite dark despite a ton of lights, so these photos aren't quite depicting the correct coloring. I'll see if I can get a better photo tomorrow before I post 5 Minute Monday.
